What are Tft Monitors

TFT monitors, also called TFT-LCD and TFT LCD monitors, are a type of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display, Liquid Crystal Display) technology using TFT (Thin Film Transistor, Thin Film Transistor) to control the pixels . Both computer screens as televisions, TFT screens have replaced cathode ray tubes CRT by small thickness, weight and volume, high resolution and low power consumption, especially with LED backlight.

Features

Currently, TFT LCD monitor stands, although strictly speaking a TFT is a type of active matrix LCD monitor.

LCD displays can use two technologies to control pixels, passive-matrix structure (STN, DSTN, CSTN) provides slow response times and poor contrast and small screens as used in digital watches, calculators or laptops monochrome screens , and structure of active matrix (TFT) used in color devices that require larger high resolution, fast response times and greater brightness, such as computer monitors and LCD televisions.

There are several types of flat panel displays as the technology used, such as TN, IPS, AFFS, MVA, PVA or ASV, obtained with each TFT displays very different characteristics in terms of response time, viewing angle, quality of image contrast, brightness, depth of black or color range.

Backlight Technology

LCDs need backlighting TFT displays to illuminate the pixels from the back, there are basically two technologies:

CCFL Backlight, is used in conventional LCD monitors use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), which provide a relatively low contrast white illumination somewhat irregular. LED Backlight: used in LED monitors and uses organic light emitting diodes, yielding a saturated contrast, deep blacks, high resolution and a more uniform lighting and more accurate than CCFL.

Advantage

Here are the main advantages of TFT monitors:

Small thickness and volume. Reduced weight. Low power consumption, especially with LED backlight. High resolution. TFT monitors are less harmful to the eye by its high refresh rate.

Drawbacks

Here the main disadvantages of TFT monitors:

The image quality, contrast, brightness and depth of TFT monitors black is not as good as the CRT. Some types of TFT monitors have poor color reproduction, as only 6 bits used for each color RGB, 18 bits in total, instead of the 24 bits that need truecolor graphics cards. TFT monitors usually have a limited viewing angle, especially vertically. Some models of TFT monitors have slow response times, which can generate images ghosts refresh problems. TFT monitors may have defective pixels, permanently off (dead) or permanently on (stuck). They offer optimal results in the native resolution or part thereof, but often lose quality to another resolution.
